Techie's Life: Let's pen some code that showers pure bliss!
As the sun peeks over the horizon, I'm already in the zone, scrolling through my Teams messages and task-board like a boss. Urgent updates, feature requests, bug reports, and my colleagues' hilarious memes flood my screen. I tackle the most pressing issues like a pro, then head off to join my team's daily stand-up. Armed with a coffee and croissant, I'm ready to rock the day at my WFH or co-working space. We're a tight-knit squad, working hand-in-hand to cook up, test, and launch digital apps using a variety of tech and frameworks, like HTML, CSS, React, Node.js, MongoDB, and Express. Our toolbox is stuffed with goodies like Visual Studio Code, Postman, Git Bash, and Microsoft Edge, which we use to craft our masterpieces. And, when we're not slaving away, we get chatty with other teams and clients on Microsoft Teams and Canva.
At lunch, I connect with my co-workers, chatting about the latest tech trends, our favorite podcasts, and just catching up with my mates who I love spending time with.
Back to work, I continue to crush my tasks until it's time for the demo session with the client. I present our latest features and get their feedback. They ask me some questions about the benefits the technology stack and the architecture will unlock for them. I answer their questions and explain my rationale, in plain English. We also discuss the next steps of the project, which involve deploying the application to a production environment for some beta test. They're wowed by our work, and I feel pretty chuffed. I end the session at 5 pm and submit my code files and demo video and notify my team via email.
Wrapping up for the day, I head home to order my favorite food and binge-watch the latest Netflix series. Before nodding off, I check my email and Teams messages, excited to see what challenges tomorrow will bring.
Agronomist/ Data Scientist Life: Let's whip up some enchantment!
Rise and shine! My day kicks off at 8am when I bust out my phone and get a sneak peek at my calendar and email. My first mission is to meet with a client at 9 am to chat about a soil analysis project I've been busting my butt on for the last month. But wait, there's more! I gotta wrap up a machine learning model by 5 pm, so no pressure there.
At the crack of 9 a.m., I jump on a Zoom call with a wheat-growing farmer who wants to level up their fertilizer and irrigation game using soil data. With a flourish, I present our soil analysis project results. Our data wizards collected, processed, and analyzed soil data, creating visual aids with charts and maps that showcased the spatial distribution of soil properties. We even served up some juicy recommendations on how to boost soil health and fertility. Our client was blown away and showered us with praise.
Next up, it's time to dive into the machine learning model, which is like a crystal ball for predicting the yield and quality of wheat crops. I channel my inner coding guru and work my magic with Python and R. I'm always keeping an eagle eye on accuracy and performance, checking stats and metrics like confusion matrix, ROC curve, cross-validation, and feature selection. Let's do this!
I kick off my afternoon with a riveting webinar presented by an agriculture AI expert. My mind is blown by the incredible advancements in plant science, like crop monitoring via drones, precision irrigation systems, and smart greenhouses.
After the webinar, I'm on a high and eager to share my machine learning model report and presentation with my team. I shoot off my email, including my code files on GitHub for all to see. Within no time, my team responds with high praise, and I feel like a rock star. I wrap up my day, feeling like a pizza party. After dinner, I check my inbox one last time before bed. As I drift off, I can't wait to tackle the next exciting challenge that awaits me tomorrow.
